Event FAQS / find your answers

Huntsville Texas is located in Walker County in east Texas, approximately 70 miles north of Houston and 170 miles south of Dallas via Interstate 45. It is also located on Texas Highway 30 (west to Bryan-College Station) and Highway 190 (east to Livingston). We are nestled among the beautiful tall pines of East Texas.  The fair is held on the quaint historic downtown square and covers 3 city blocks.  The community comes alive each year with the sights, sounds and smells of the festival!
For over 40 years the Fair on the Square has been a hot spot to find one of kind treasures and gift items.  The Fair is hosted by the Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce and depends on the generosity of many sponsors and volunteers!  Approximately 380 booths of arts, crafts, food and entertainment are sure to please festival patrons of all ages and gender. In addition, the Fair on the Square is an opportunity to bring literally thousands of visitors to our community, which boosts our tourism market.  Visitors include not only people coming to the fair to shop but the vendors as well.  The Fair on the Square provides an ideal opportunity to market the many businesses, organizations, churches and clubs that thrive in the Huntsville community.  The Chamber is a member and COMMUNITY service organization whose mission is to promote an environment to enhance the economic success of business in Walker County. The Fair on the Square is just one element that helps us fulfill that mission.
The Fair on the Square is held the 1st Saturday in October EVERY year!  The Fair officially begins at 9:00 a.m. and continues until 5:00 p.m.  The event is an outdoor event!
There are several places in Huntsville to accommodate you.  Check out our lodging tab on the home page of the website for links to our many hotel options.  Be sure to tell them that you are coming for the fair, some may offer discounts!
You will receive a 10 x 10 booth space.  Canopy tents are not required but encouraged as this is completely an outdoor event, we do not supply these, you will need to bring your own.  Please secure your canopy as well, the majority of booths will be located on the street.  Electricity is ONLY available for our food vendors.  We would love to offer electricity to everyone but simply do not have the means to do so.   When choosing your booth space take into consideration that most spaces have drive up access for loading and unloading, however; booths on 12th Street do not.  These particular booths are located in the middle of the street, therefore; these vendors will need to park at the end of the street and carry in their items.  Remember to also bring adequate help for setting up your booth.  We plan to have many volunteers, some from SHSU, but we cannot guarantee that you will have help setting up and tearing down.
We would love to have you as one of our vendors!  Go to the vendor info tab on the home page for an application and registration information.   General registration begins early in the summer, however; we encourage our vendors to pre-reserve their spot for the next year and about a 1/3 do so every year.  The map on this website does not reflect the booths that are taken. Please call the chamber at 936-295-8113 or email chamber@chamber.huntsville.tx.us to get an updated copy.
Parking is limited.  Many businesses will allow parking in their parking lot but may charge a small fee.  We have FREE remote parking located at Sam Houston State University Bower’s Stadium Parking Lot P14.  A shuttle service is provided and will run from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday only! DIRECTIONS:  From Sam Houston Avenue, turn on Bearkat Blvd and head east and follow to the stadium which will be on your right. Look for Shuttle Parking Signs, the parking lot available for use is located on the scoreboard side.
Yes we do but it is limited.  Several spots are reserved on the west and north side of the Walker County Courthouse, located on the corner of Sam Houston Avenue and 11th Street/Hwy 30.  However these spaces tend to fill up quickly, so get there early!
Admission to the Fair on the Square is FREE!!!!  The Pre-Fair on the Square Concert held the Friday before the big event is only $10 and tickets may be purchased that evening.
The popular Food Court will be open all day and will surely tempt your taste buds with some fair favorites such as sausage on a stick, kettlekorn, homemade root beer floats, and many “deep fried” favorites just to name a few!  The Food Court is located in the Walker County Annex parking lot on the corner of 13th Street and University Avenue.  There are also a couple of restaurants in the area that will be open as well, The Farmhouse Café, City Hall Café, Farmhouse Sweets and Eats, Patio Cafe on the Square and The Café Texan.  All of these are easy access and walking distance from the fair.
Many local merchants located on the square open their doors and extend their genuine Texas hospitality and they encourage you to stop by and see what they have to offer. In addition, Huntsville is the proud home of Sam Houston.  The Sam Houston Memorial Museum and the Sam Houston Statue and Visitor Center are two must sees while in our community.  The Texas Prison Museum and the H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum also provide a wealth of information and enjoyment.  See the chamber website for more opportunities of places to visit while you are here!
Golf carts are not permitted on the streets.  There is simply not enough room with all the spectators.
Small pets are allowed but MUST be on a leash.  Also remember dogs cant flush…if it poops, YOU SCOOP!
Most of them are able to do so with the technology options provided today.  However, not all may accommodate this form of payment.  We have several ATM’s available throughout the fair for your convenience.
YES!!!  A Pre-Fair on the Square concert kicks off the event on Friday night. The 2016 show will feature Jerrett Zoch and the OSR Band.

The concert will be held underneath the Beer Garden tent located at the corner of 14th Street and University Avenue.  The concert will be held from 9:00 p.m. until midnight and admission is only $10, doors will open at 8:00 p.m. You do not have to be 21 to enjoy the event, but you do have to be 21 or older to drink beer; a valid driver’s license will be required to purchase beer! No outside drinks are permitted.  Animals are not permitted as well. Saturday entertainment begins at 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the same tent.  Two local bands will be Singlewide and Raisin Cane.   Admission is free, however you will have to pay for any drinks consumed.  Once again, you do not have to be 21 to enter, we have soft drinks available as well.  A valid driver’s license will be required to purchase beer.    On Saturday you may bring in food purchased from the Food Court which sits directly adjacent to the Beer Garden. We also have many local dance companies, school bands, jump rope teams, etc perform on the stage at the Kids Korner located in Rather Park.
You will get wet!  Seriously!  The Fair on the Square is designated a “rain or shine” event.  The Huntsville-Walker County Chamber of Commerce will cancel the event only if it is determined that safety is an issue.  We encourage everyone to pray for sunshine!!
Yes, we have nurses from Huntsville Memorial Hospital ready to assist you with minor bumps and bruises.  They set up shop in our Chamber Headquarters located in the heart of the fair in the First Bank lobby, on the corner of 13th and University.  If your needs are more serious, first responders will be called.
There are two locations designed just for the youngsters, we invite you to go to the home page for a complete map layout of the fair!  Many of the attractions in the Kids Korners are FREE!  The Boys and Girls Club of Walker County host an arts and crafts station along with Home Depot, providing hours of fun for children to build and create!  Children can also enjoy the petting zoo, pony rides, bounce house, balloon artist, sno cones, face painting, rock wall, and more.  Some vendor stations change from year to year so be sure to come out and bring the little ones and enjoy the fun!

Testimonials / See what others are Saying!

Laura, Thank you for once again making me a part of the Fair on the Square! I am proud to have worked with you for a decade now and I look forward to the next decade of successful fairs!

Kindly, Joel

This was our first time to be Vendors at The Fair on the Square in Huntsville. We had a very good day and met so many nice people. We hope to be back again in 2016. This was a well organized Show and Event. We are Vendors almost every weekend in and around Texas. I would rank this Event as one of my top ten Shows in 2015. With thanks to Laura and the Chamber for making it so great! God willing we will see you again in 2016.

Thank you, Wanda Benge, Owner Texas Born and Bred Texas T-shirts & Artwork

I was a first time vendor, and even had to work my booth alone! But you all made my setup and takedown much easier than it would've been, by offering hands and help! I had the best Saturday ever...far better than I expected. I hope to be back next year as well! Thanks for the great time!

Mary Meier Redneck Feng Shui

It was our first time there, we had a great time! The city personnel, other vendors, volunteers as well as the visitors were very helpful, friendly and ready to enjoy the day. We’ll be back. Thank you.

Lenice Brown - Best of Texas

THANK YOU!! This is my 8th year as a vendor, not in the same spot. Of all the shows I do, this is the most organized. I think it also has the most attendance, bigger every year. This is my best show of all my shows I do, and I have so many return customers, it amazes me. I love my spot (#262) and your volunteers are so gracious. Thank you for helping make my best show...better every year. Look forward to 2015!!!! My husband (80 next year) and I are getting kinda old for this, but we love it and really enjoy seeing everyone each year. THANKS AGAIN for a great show!!!!!

Cynthia Hance - Trinity TX

I just want you to know you and your staff run a great festival. I look forward to coming each year. If you ever have another spot come open please let me know. Great job!
